Dr. Timothy Liu, M.D. is an adult, child and adolescent psychiatrist. Dr. Liu graduated from the adult psychiatry residency at Yale University School of Medicine. He also completed fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry at the Yale Child Study Center, and an internship at the Mayo Clinic. His clinical research on impulse-control disorders, problematic internet use and depression has appeared in numerous scholarly publications. He is a co-author of four psychiatric texts including the Encyclopedia of Behavioral Neuroscience (Elsevier Science; 2010) and the Oxford Handbook of Impulse Control Disorders (Oxford University Press; 2011).
Dr. Liu is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in adult psychiatry as well as child and adolescent psychiatry.
Dr. Liu enjoys working with families and children. In addition to medication consultation, he also provides psychological and behavioral treatments for problem behaviors in children, depression and anxiety disorders.
Dr. Liu is trilingual in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. He is very interested in the cultural aspects of psychiatry, in particular relational issues between immigrant parents and their children. He was selected to be a Diversity Leadership Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association in 2009-2010.
Dr. Liu offers evening appointments in order to better accommodate the busy work and school schedules of his patients.
He is married with two young children.
